Web desk: Renowned Indian actor Govardhan Asrani, who was popularly known as Asrani in the film world, passed away in Mumbai on Monday after a prolonged illness.

Asrani was 83 years old. Popular in the film world for his comic acting and unique dialogue delivery, Govardhan Asrani’s last rites were performed at the Santacruz Crematorium.
According to media reports, he was admitted to the Bharatiya Arogya Nidhi Hospital in Mumbai’s Juhu area four days ago.
According to doctors, his lungs were filled with water, due to which his condition was critical.
He breathed his last at around 3:30 pm on Monday, October 20. His close aide Babubhai said that the actor’s last rites have been completed.
Asrani’s artistic career spanned five decades and during this time he worked in more than 350 films.
Govardhan Asranis Legacy
As a comedian and supporting actor, he gave many memorable roles to Hindi cinema.
The 1970s were his artistic heyday, when he reached new heights of fame with his unique role as a jailer in films like “Mere Apne, Kurosh, Kaak, Pariche, Abhiman, Chupke Chupke, Choti Si Baat, Rafo Chakra” and the famous film “Sholay” released in 1975.
This role is still considered an unforgettable part of film history. Along with acting, Asrani also proved her mettle in directing.
He wrote, directed and played the lead role in films like Chela Murari Hero Banar in 1977. Later, he directed many other films including Salaam Meem Sahib (1979).
Asrani also worked in Gujarati cinema and achieved considerable success as a lead actor in the 1970s and 1980s.
His film journey is a reflection of his versatility, consistency and immense love for the art. The void of his comic acting in Hindi cinema will not be filled for a long time.
