The Sindh government has announced a public holiday on the occasion of Jumat-ul-Wida falling on March 19, Provincial Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah confirmed on Wednesday.
According to the minister the provincial administration has decided to announce a public holiday for the ease of the citizens to observe religious activities and take part in prayers to observe the last Friday of the month of Ramzan.
Nasir Hussain Shah also came out with the revelation that a major road of Karachi will be named after Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. However he clarified that there would be no permission given for a rally on Shahrah-e-Faisal on Jumat-ul-Wida because of traffic management and security.
He ordered all religious and political organisations to carry out their rallies on traditional and previously designated routes that organisers had to cooperate with the authorities to ensure public convenience at public places and maintenance of law and order.
Official said security and traffic arrangements would be implemented in Karachi and other parts of Sindh for the gathering supposed to be held on the occasion.
Shawwal moon sighting in Pakistan
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast for the Shawwal moon sighting for Eid-ul-Fitr 2026.
The department said there is no possibility of seeing the Shawwal moon on March 19. The moon of Shawwal 1447 AH will be born at 6:23 AM on March 19.
At sunset, the moon’s age at most meteorological stations will be 12 to 13 hours. This is not suitable for sighting.
The final decision will be made by Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. They will announce the date after sighting the moon.
Eid ul Fitr 2026 in Pakistan
Eid ul Fitr 1st Shawwal 1447 AH is expected to be observed from March 20 to March 23. This depends on the official moon sighting.
The official holidays for Eid 2026 in Pakistan will be confirmed closer to the date.
