Govt decides to end austerity measures, introduces changes to business hours

The Prime Minister, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, has approved the withdrawal of fuel conservation and additional austerity measures, and several restrictions imposed after March 9, 2026, have now been abolished.

According to sources, the government has lifted most restrictions related to energy conservation; however, decisions regarding the operating hours of markets, commercial centres, and business activities will remain in effect.

Under the new guidelines, shops, markets and shopping malls must close by 9 pm, while wedding halls and marquees are allowed to remain open until 10 pm.

Similarly, restaurants, cafés, and food outlets will close at 11 pm, although takeaway and home delivery services will be exempt from these time restrictions.

Pharmacies, hospitals, laboratories, and medical stores will continue to operate without any time limitations. Petrol pumps, CNG stations, and EV charging stations will also remain exempt from closing hours.

IT companies, call centres, gyms, and sports facilities will likewise not be subject to specific timing restrictions. The market timing notifications issued on June 3 and June 10 will remain in effect, and earlier austerity measures introduced before March 9, 2026, will also continue.

The government stated that the decision to ease additional restrictions has been taken in view of the improving energy situation and to facilitate public and business activities.
