Traffic police have decided to provide temporary relief to citizens in response to rising global tensions and increasing petrol prices officials announced on Wednesday.
According to traffic authorities rickshaw and motorcycle riders will not be issued traffic challans until Eid. The move aims to ease the financial burden on the public amid soaring fuel costs.
Officials said that the continuous increase in petrol prices has significantly raised daily expenses for commuters. As a result traffic police have adopted a lenient policy under which awareness about traffic rules will continue but routine fines will largely be avoided during this period.
The police further said that if fuel prices continue to rise traffic officers including the Chief Traffic Officer will begin using motorcycles instead of official vehicles to reduce government fuel expenses and promote conservation.
Authorities have also directed personnel not to keep traffic police vehicles running unnecessarily while parked a measure intended to prevent fuel wastage.
Moreover officials revealed that if petrol prices reach a third level of increase traffic police may introduce bicycle patrolling with several proposals currently under consideration.
Traffic authorities appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and where possible use public transport.
Govt enforces one-dish rule, limits wedding guests to 200
In separate development the government imposed a one-dish rule and restricted the number of guests at weddings and other ceremonies to a maximum of 200 as part of the nationwide austerity campaign.
According to details, new regulations have been issued for wedding functions and social events aimed at promoting cost-saving measures and reducing unnecessary expenditures across the the country.
According to official notification, serving more than one dish at any event will no longer be allowed, while a strict limit has also been placed on the number of guests invited to ceremonies.
Under the new rules, no wedding or party will be permitted to host more than 200 guests. Authorities have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the guest limit.
Only a single food dish will be allowed to be served at events, and legal action will be taken against hall owners and event organisers found violating the regulations.
The government has also said that ceremonies must conclude within the prescribed time to help conserve electricity.
