These proposals’ main objective is to minimising academic loss for students and to increase the number of teaching days during the academic year to at least 180 to 190 days.

The minister said that by excessive holidays during the current academic year is heavily affected, leaving limited time for actual teaching and this is the reason that a reduction of 15 to 20 days in summer vacations and 5 to 6 days in winter vacations is under consideration.

Additionally, to better manage the academic schedule authorities are also reviewing the option of opening schools on alternate Saturdays.

Another key development is the plan to introduce separate academic calendars for Matric and O/A Level students, ensuring that studies are completed in line with international examination schedules.

It is worth noting that in March 2026, schools remained closed for an extended period due to the situation in the Middle East and a fuel crisis. The government is now taking these steps to accelerate the academic process.
