The government has announced large-scale measures to promote electric transport, setting a target of increasing the number of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country to 2.2 million by 2030.
According to a briefing given to the Senate Standing Committee on Industry and Production, a subsidy of Rs 9 billion has been allocated for the purchase of two- and three-wheeler electric vehicles. Citizens who purchase electric motorcycles will also receive financial assistance of up to Rs 80,000 per motorcycle.
The briefing stated that more than 12,800 electric vehicles and 160,000 electric motorcycles have been manufactured locally in Pakistan to date, indicating rapid growth in the sector.
Experts stated that the promotion of electric vehicles will play an important role in reducing dependence on imported fuel, saving foreign exchange, reducing air pollution, and protecting the environment.
The subsidy scheme is also expected to make it easier for middle- and low-income groups to afford electric vehicles.
On the other hand, Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors has expanded its electric vehicle lineup with the unveiling of the new Eclipse Sportback EV. While the vehicle may appear familiar at first glance, its distinctive styling and modern design are aimed at helping it stand out in the increasingly competitive EV market.
The new model is built on the same platform as the Nissan Leaf. However, Mitsubishi has given the vehicle a significantly different appearance. The front end has been completely redesigned, featuring the company’s signature three-diamond emblem, new lighting elements and a uniquely styled bumper that gives the car a fresh and dynamic look.
At the rear, the Eclipse Sportback replaces the Nissan Leaf’s traditional taillights with distinctive L-shaped lighting units that extend in opposite directions. Large Mitsubishi lettering across the tailgate further enhances the vehicle’s bold appearance.
