The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to formally introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) as part of the curriculum in public schools from Grade 6 to Grade 12 across the province.
According to official documents Khyber Pakhtunkhwa currently faces a shortage of 5,525 IT laboratories required for teaching AI.
Of these 225 IT labs are needed in higher secondary schools and 3,515 in middle schools which are not yet available.
The Elementary and Secondary Education Department stated that the existing computer science curriculum taught in schools does not include AI-related content making major curriculum revisions unavoidable.
Under the plan between 35 and 50 percent AI-related material will be incorporated into the curriculum of various grades.
To ensure effective AI education the Education Department has also decided to recruit 7,555 IT teachers to align students with modern technology.
According to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department AI will be officially included in the curriculum starting from March 2026.
Govt to train teachers for new E-marking system
The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwan has also set to train teachers on e-marking in educational boards.
In this regard, the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Swat will also design training workshops in different educational boards in the province.
This is meant to equip the marking rubrics that will be used to assess examination papers on e-marking system and improve the professional capacity of teachers.
In this regard, nomination of experienced teachers of respective subjects has been sought in each board by way of a formal letter that has been sent to the Chairman of the Peshawar Board.
To ensure that e-marking is implemented effectively in Physics, Chemistry and English subjects it will be done in phases through workshops.
These workshops will involve lecturers, Senior Subject Teachers, Headmasters, and Assistant Professors in various boards such as Swat, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Malakand and Bannu among others.
Out of the Swat Board, 15 teachers have been proposed on Physics, Chemistry, and English.
On the same note, 15 teachers have been nominated by Abbottabad Board and 15 teachers have been nominated by Peshawar Board to the three subjects.
Some of the teachers in Mardan and Malakand Boards have also been incorporated in the training process.
