The Charlotte Chess Centre reported the news on Monday and asked for privacy for his family, saying, “It is with great sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Daniel Naroditsky.”

Chess.com CCO said, “Danya was more than an amazing, inspirational face of our game, he was a friend and brother,” adding, “It is impossible to put words to this kind of loss.”
GM Oleksandr called him “a very kind guy” and shared, “Danya, don’t worry about anything. I love you so much.” Content creator Cr1TiKaL said, “Daniel was such a bright light in the chess community,” praising him as “an amazing teacher, an incredible player and a great friend.”
Daniel Naroditsky: A career of talent and teaching
Born in San Mateo and introduced to chess by his father at a very early age, Naroditsky rose quickly at international stage.
He won World Youth Under 12 gold in 2007, took the US Junior title in 2013, and earned the grandmaster title that year.
He later received the Samford Fellowship and represented the United States at the 2015 World Team Championship.
More recently he won the 2025 US National Blitz Championship with a perfect score. His latest FIDE classical rating was 2619, with a peak of 2647.
Beyond results, he was a cherished voice through streaming and lively commentary. IM John Donaldson recalled, “Daniel enjoyed everything about chess.” As Rensch noted, “The news is devastating for the chess world and all who knew him.”
