The Government of Balochistan has started a Green Peoples Bus Service in Turbat to provide the population with safe, comfortable, and efficient public transport for improving urban mobility in the area.

The initiative is part of the wider mission of the provincial government, to modernise transportation facilities in major cities.

Chief Minister of the Balochistan province Mir Sarfraz Bugti inaugurated the service from the Circuit House at Turbat.

With this launch, Turbat has become the second city in the province after Quetta to have the modern transport system.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Bugti said the project was a great move towards improving the public transport network in the province of Balochistan.

He said the new service would help to ease difficulties for residents to travel as well as providing a reliable commuting service for daily commuters.

“This service will not only benefit the residents of Turbat city but will also serve people of the entire Kech District,” the chief minister said while pointing out the attention of the government towards improving the public transport infrastructure.

Bugti also said that Pink Bus Service for women would shortly be delivered for safer and more convenient travel for female passengers.

According to officials, the technology used in the buses has modern facilities and are designed to offer a comfortable travelling experience to commuters.

Each bus has seating for 37 people and has a capacity of 100 commuters including those travelling while standing. In the first phase, four buses have been allocated for the service.

Authorities are planning to install 18 bus stations along a 19 kilometres route connecting Turbat with the adjacent suburbs.

The service is expected to carry around 4,500 passengers each day when it gets fully into motion.

While the buses have designated seating for women, children and senior citizens. They are also equipped with wheelchair access, emergency exits, fire extinguisher, and automatic hydraulic door to make the passengers safe.

Digital screens installed inside and outside the buses will show the route information and other travel updates for the commuters.

Officials said decisions relating to routes and fares will be finalised following additional assessments.
