Punjab govt launches Punjab Wildlife Digital Database, E-Biz Punjab Portal

To mark World Environment Day 2026, the Punjab government launched the Punjab Wildlife Digital Database and the E-Biz Punjab Portal on Friday, as part of Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Green Punjab Vision.

Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb officially opened these initiatives during a ceremony themed “A Global Call for Climate Action,” in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Wildlife Department, Forest Department, environmental experts, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and other organisations.

In her speech, Marriyum Aurangzeb stated that World Environment Day acts as a global platform to encourage collective action against climate change.

She added that the Punjab government is implementing practical measures to boost environmental protection, climate resilience, wildlife conservation, fisheries, aquaculture, and shrimp farming.

She mentioned that CM Maryam Nawaz has prioritised environmental restoration and conservation through the launch of initiatives like Green Punjab, highlighting that real progress can only be made through tangible actions rather than just statements.

The Senior Minister pointed out that the government has set record budgets for the Forest, Environment, and Wildlife sectors while also introducing modern technology-based systems.

Vehicle Emission Testing System now operational across Punjab

She noted that the Vehicle Emission Testing System is now fully operational throughout Punjab, and according to SUPARCO data, incidents of crop residue burning have decreased by 65 percent.

Marriyum Aurangzeb explained that the province is working to improve landscape management, forest monitoring, and wildfire early warning systems through digitisation and advanced technology.

She added that afforestation efforts are now evaluated based on the area covered instead of just the number of trees planted.

She also mentioned that dedicated environmental improvement funds have been included in development projects and that Punjab is actively promoting e-mobility.
