Rape cases in India become concerning

NEW DELHI: India has become the rape capital of the world as more than 450,000 crimes against women have been recorded in the year 2023.

Rape has become one of the fastest growing crimes in India. Violent crimes, including sexual assault, happen at tourist sites and other locations highlighting that there is no safety for women in India.

As per the latest annual report released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), India recorded a total of 448,000 cases against women, out of which 29,670 were rape cases excluding rape of 871 minor children.

More than 133,676 cases of cruelty by husbands or relatives reported across India, which is also the most common crime, according to the report.

Other major offences include kidnapping and abduction, with 88,605 cases, assault on women 83,891 cases

Experts have warned that the overall situation in India regarding women safety remains a grave concern and it has become a major challenge for law enforcement and judicial authorities across India.
