Grand Theft Auto (GTA 6) is one of the world’s most highly anticipated video games. It was delayed from its original Spring 2025 release window to 2026.
According to Strauss Zelnick, who serves as the Chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive, said that the delay was made to give developers more time to improve the game’s quality and ensure it meets the high expectations of players. Take Two Interactive is the video game holding company behind Rockstar Games (Grand Theft Auto).
Zelnick further explained that the company wants Rockstar Games to have enough time to create the best possible version of GTA 6 instead of rushing its release. He said the goal is to achieve perfection and provide a smooth gaming experience for fans around the world.
Modern games such as GTA 6 require years of detailed work. This work includes graphics, artificial intelligence systems, voice acting, gameplay mechanics, online features, bug testing, and performance optimisation, etc across different gaming platforms.
Rockstar Games officially announced GTA 6 in late 2023. The first trailer quickly became one of the most-watched gaming videos online. Fans have been eagerly waiting for more updates ever since. The game is expected to feature a return to Vice City.
The delay disappointed many fans, but could help the game avoid technical problems that often affect launches. In recent years, several major game releases faced criticism because they launched with bugs and unfinished features.
However, despite the delay, Take Two Interactive remains financially strong because of successful franchises such as NBA 2K, Red Dead Redemption, and Grand Theft Auto. Investors are still expecting GTA 6 to become one of the biggest 2026 entertainment launches.
