Hailstorms, heavy rain to hit these areas today

Hailstorms, heavy rain weather update today

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted mostly dry weather across the country on Friday, but warned of rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms in several regions.

According to the Met Office, parts of northeast Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may experience scattered rain and gusty winds, with chances of hailstorms developing in the afternoon.

In Islamabad and nearby areas, weather will remain largely dry, though partly cloudy skies are expected later in the evening and night.

Across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, most districts are likely to stay dry. However, isolated areas including Kohat, Hangu, Bannu, Karak, Tank, Kurram, Dera Ismail Khan, Lakki Marwat, and Waziristan, could see thunderstorms with strong winds during the afternoon, along with possible hail in some locations.

In Punjab, dry conditions will dominate most districts, but places such as Bhakkar, Layyah, Jhang, Khanewal, Tonsa, Kot Addu, and Dera Ghazi Khan may witness isolated thunderstorms and potential hailstorms later in the day. Meanwhile, Murree and Galiyat are expected to remain dry with partly cloudy skies by evening.

Sindh will continue to experience mainly dry weather throughout.

In Balochistan, areas including Zhob, Musakhel, Qila Saifullah, Qila Abdullah, Pishin, Quetta, Ziarat, Barkhan, Turbat, Kech, and Gwadar may receive scattered rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms during the afternoon hours.

For Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, dry to partly cloudy weather is expected to persist throughout the day.

NDMA issues alert amid ongoing rains across Pakistan

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert warning of potential risks and threats due to ongoing rainfall across various parts of the country.

According to the advisory, thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds and hailstorms are expected in several regions during the next 12 to 24 hours. Rain, windstorms, and hail are likely in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, while snowfall is also anticipated at some locations in the upper mountainous areas.

The NDMA further stated that different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are likely to experience rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds. Similar weather conditions, including rain, windstorms, and possible hailstorms, are also forecast for parts of Punjab.

Authorities warned that rainfall and strong winds may reduce visibility and make roads slippery, increasing the risk of traffic accidents. Snowfall in mountainous regions may also disrupt traffic flow.

Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and take precautionary measures during adverse weather conditions.
