HBL’s mobile banking app faced service disruptions across Pakistan on Thursday night, leaving many users unable to access their accounts or carry out transactions.
Several customers reported that the app failed to open, with users getting stuck on the login screen as the loading page continued without progressing. The issue disrupted routine banking activities, including fund transfers, bill payments and other digital transactions, forcing users to wait for the service to resume.
The reason behind the outage was not immediately clear. Some users speculated that the disruption could be linked to system maintenance or heavy traffic on the app, but no official explanation was initially provided. As of 10:30pm, the app was still inaccessible for many users at the time of writing.
Users also said they had not received any prior notification from Habib Bank Limited regarding scheduled maintenance or a possible service interruption. Many expressed frustration, noting that mobile banking apps in Pakistan often face glitches or undergo maintenance without clear communication to customers.
What users experienced
According to multiple reports, the problem began earlier in the evening but appeared to worsen after 9pm. By around 10:15pm, several users said the app remained unavailable, with no indication of when normal service would resume.
An HBL official later said that the bank’s digital banking services were under maintenance. However, no timeline was shared on when the app would be fully restored.
Customers also reported long waiting times when trying to contact HBL’s helpline, with some saying they were unable to get through to a customer service representative.
As of late Thursday night, it remained unclear when the HBL mobile app would become fully operational again.
