Heatwave to continue until June 12 as rain forecast for Islamabad

Pakistan is expected to experience continued high temperatures until June 12, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasting persistent heatwave conditions across majority of the country.

Most plain areas will remain under the influence of intense heat, but rainfall is expected in Islamabad, parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and several northern regions later this week.

According to the Meteorological Department, temperatures are likely to rise further in most plains from June 9 to June 12. In the upper parts during the daytime, the country is expected to remain 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal seasonal levels. In the lower and southern regions, temperatures may exceed normal levels by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius, intensifying the ongoing heatwave.

Additionally, weather officials stated that severe heat will continue to affect Islamabad, northern Punjab, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through June 10.

Residents in this case have been advised to take precautionary measures, avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun during peak hours, and stay adequately hydrated as temperatures remain significantly above average.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also forecast rain in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Punjab during June 11 and 12. Thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall are expected in major cities and districts, including Rawalpindi and Lahore. Authorities believe the rainfall could bring temporary relief from the prevailing hot weather conditions.

Moreover, in Sindh, the intense heat is expected to persist in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and most other districts of the province. Residents of these areas are likely to continue facing very high temperatures throughout the forecast period.

Meanwhile, parts of Balochistan may receive rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. The districts of Zhob and Musa Khel are expected to experience such weather conditions on June 11 and 12.

The weather department has also predicted rainfall in Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Mansehra, and Abbottabad during the same period.

Lahore weather: Temperature to cross 45°C today

A severe heatwave is expected to persist in Lahore, with temperatures forecast to reach between 44°C and 45°C.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the weather in the city will remain hot and dry today, while intense sunshine is likely to make conditions feel significantly hotter than usual.

Experts have advised residents to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the afternoon hours and to increase their water intake to stay protected from the extreme heat.

Overall, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising citizens to stay updated with official weather forecasts as Pakistan experiences a combination of extreme heat and approaching rain systems across various regions of the country.
