Heavy rain ends in Southern California, cleanup begins

WEB DESK: After consecutive rain for three days in Southern California, it has finally stopped. Residents have begun clearing mud and debris from their houses. The powerful spell caused floods and landslides across the region.

According to the National Weather Service, the holiday storm had dropped up to 6 inches of rain on Los Angeles and 12 inches or more on the nearest mountains.

While the heavy rain settled on Friday, many mountain areas remain on high alert as they experienced property damage.

High winds accompanied the rainstorm, and trees and various power lines collapsed due to this. While heavy snow fell at higher elevations.

Damage Caused by Rains

According to the media reports, dozens of homes were damaged by fast-moving rivers of mud and rocks that rushed into neighbourhoods.

In some places, the mud was five feet deep, tall enough to bury cars and enter the bottom of the houses.

Rescue teams saved about 24 people who were stuck in their cars or homes, but thankfully, no one was killed or badly hurt.

Evacuation warnings remain in place for vulnerable neighbourhoods, and most local roads are restricted to residents only.

Although the region is expected to dry out over the weekend, a flood watch will remain in effect due to the flooded ground.
