HEC makes degree attestaion process easier

ISLAMABAD: Higher Education Commission (HEC) has made the degree attestation process easier for students by shifting the entire system online.

Preparations for this upgrade have entered the final stage.

According to state-run news agency APP, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has approved the final plan to integrate blockchain technology into its degree attestation system.

The goal is to make the process faster, more transparent and more efficient, while ending the requirement for applicants to appear in person.

HEC said the procurement phase for the new system has been completed, and the blockchain-based mechanism will become fully operational within the next six months.

Acting HEC Chairman Nazir Mehmood directed the concerned team to complete the project on priority and ensure its early implementation.

During a briefing, officials informed him that applicants will no longer have to submit documents physically or visit HEC offices.

The records of students from the 25 universities that already use a full Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system will be automatically linked to the blockchain.

Graduates from these institutions will not need to submit any documents for attestation, as their degrees will automatically be added to HEC’s blockchain system at the time of graduation.

They will be able to access verified records through the HEC portal.

Students from institutions that do not have ERP will upload their degrees and transcripts online through the HEC portal.

These documents will be sent to the respective university’s dashboard. Once verified, the record will be added to the blockchain.

Under the new system, degree attestation will be completely online, with all records stored digitally. This will allow secure, quick and tamper-proof verification.

Once verified, degrees will be stored on the HEC blockchain, enabling government departments, the Foreign Office, embassies and private organisations to check authenticity instantly.

HEC officials say this modern system will make the attestation process fully paperless, automated and transparent, ending the need for manual stamps and physical documents forever.
