How many citizens were deprived of cars and motorcycles in Karachi?

Vehicle snatching incidents are on the rise across Karachi, as a large number of cars and motorcycles were snatched at gunpoint during January.

According to a report released by the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), citizens in Karachi were deprived of 156 cars and 3,509 motorcycles during January 2026.

The report revealed that 18 cars were snatched at gunpoint, while 138 were stolen in separate incidents across the city in January.  Motorcycle-related crimes remained alarmingly high, with 417 bikes snatched and 3,092 stolen during the same period.

In addition to vehicle crimes, street crime continued to affect residents, with 1,441 mobile phones snatched from citizens throughout the month.

The CPLC data also revealed that 19 cases of extortion were reported in January. Meanwhile, violence persisted in the metropolis, where at least 50 people lost their lives in various incidents.

The figures highlight ongoing concerns over street crime and law and order in Karachi, as residents continue to grapple with rising incidents of theft, snatching, and violence. Authorities have yet to announce specific measures to curb the increasing trend.

It is worth mentioning that the CPLC Karachi had released crime statistics for the period from January to November 2025, revealing a troubling rise in street crime across the city.

According to the report, more than 2,000 citizens were deprived of their vehicles over the 11 months. Of these, 285 vehicles were snatched at gunpoint, while 1,728 were stolen.

Motorcycle theft and snatching remained alarmingly high. The report states that 6,051 motorcycles were snatched, while 35,749 were stolen during the same period.

Street crimes involving mobile phones also continued unabated, with 17,767 valuable mobile phones snatched from citizens at gunpoint.

In addition, 13 cases of kidnapping for ransom and 92 cases of extortion were reported in the city during the reporting period.

The statistics highlight ongoing concerns about law and order in Karachi, as citizens continue to face significant security challenges.
