How many students receive education assistance through Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal?

Under the Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) Individual Financial Assistance (Education) Programme, more than 75,000 students nationwide have received educational support since 2004, with total expenditures exceeding Rs 2 billion.

Between 2008 and 2026, a total of 6,739 students at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) benefited from financial assistance amounting to approximately Rs 240 million through PBM.

In the current financial year 2025–26 alone, 171 students have so far received assistance worth around Rs 9 million, reflecting the continued commitment to supporting deserving students.

Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, Syed Imran Ahmad Shah, shared these details while responding to media queries during his visit to NUML Islamabad. Speaking to journalists, he elaborated on the disbursement process, transparency measures, and overall effectiveness of the scholarships provided under Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal.

He noted that the programme has played a vital role in enabling students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds to continue their education without interruption.

The Minister further announced that the annual financial assistance ceiling has been increased from PKR 100,000 to PKR 150,000 per student, allowing greater support for those in need. He added that, in light of rising educational expenses, the number of scholarships will be expanded in the future.

Syed Imran Ahmad Shah emphasised that the state’s responsibility extends beyond merely paying tuition fees; it must ensure that no student’s education is disrupted due to financial hardship.

He also highlighted the Medical Assistance Programme under Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, through which deserving students suffering from serious illnesses are provided financial support for treatment. The assistance limit under this programme has been raised from PKR 1 million to PKR 1.5 million per patient to ensure timely and effective medical care for those in need.
