The Government of Pakistan is offering financial support to young people under the Prime Minister’s Youth Business and Agriculture Loan Scheme (PMYB&ALS).

The programme aims to promote entrepreneurship and help youth start or expand businesses.

As part of the wider scheme, a 0% interest laptop financing option has also been introduced to help young people meet the demands of the digital economy.

What is the scheme?

The Prime Minister’s Youth Business and Agriculture Loan Scheme provides loans in three tiers, depending on the amount required.

In addition to it, students, freelancers and young entrepreneurs can apply for interest-free financing to purchase laptops.

The goal is to reduce the financial burden on youth and encourage business activity across the country.

Loan tiers explained

Loans under the scheme are divided into three categories:

Tier 1

  • Loan amount: Up to Rs500,000
  • Markup: 0% (interest-free)

Tier 2

  • Loan amount: Above Rs500,000 up to Rs1.5 million
  • Markup: 5%

Tier 3

  • Loan amount: Above Rs1.5 million up to Rs7.5 million
  • Markup: 7%

Laptop financing details

  • Up to Rs150,000 is available for basic laptops
  • Up to Rs300,000 for mid-range laptops
  • Up to Rs450,000 for high-performance laptops

Under the laptop financing option:

The approved loan amount will be based on the actual price of the laptop or the maximum limit, whichever is lower.

The loan is repayable in monthly instalments.

Who is eligible?

Eligibility depends on the type of loan:

  • Applicants must be Pakistani citizens.
  • For business loans, the general age limit is between 21 and 45 years.
  • For IT and e-commerce businesses, the minimum age is 18 years.
  • For laptop financing, applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old.
  • The applicant must be enrolled in a recognised educational institution, freelancing, or running a business.
  • Educational institutions must be approved by the Higher Education Commission.
  • Loan defaulters or individuals with a record of financial misconduct are not eligible.

Applicants from all cities of Pakistan, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, can apply.

How to apply: Step-by-step guide

All applications must be submitted online through the official portal: www.pmyp.gov.pk

Initial screening

  • Visit the website.
  • Enter your CNIC number.
  • Enter the date of issue of your CNIC.
  • Select the relevant tier (for example, Tier 1 for interest-free loans).
  • Click to proceed.

Personal information

  • Fill in your personal details carefully.
  • All fields marked with an asterisk are mandatory.
  • Select your preferred bank or microfinance institution.
  • Save your information.
  • Click “Submit” and proceed to the next step.

Business information

  • Provide complete details about your business or proposed business.
  • Review the information carefully.
  • Save and click “Submit and Next”.

Loan details

  • Enter the required loan amount and related details.
  • Save your information.
  • Click “Submit and Next”.

Financing details

  • Provide details about any previous loans, if applicable.
  • Confirm the declaration that the information provided is accurate.
  • Submit your application.

After the initial review, the concerned bank will contact you for further processing.

Loans are being provided through 15 commercial, Islamic and SME banks on relatively simple terms.
