Pakistan’s cyber security authorities have issued a high-priority cyber alert warning about possible cyber attacks targeting government systems, banks, and public digital services.
The warning comes amid rising regional tensions and increasing cyber activity worldwide.
Security officials said attackers could try to steal data, disrupt online services, or spread false information using digital platforms.
The National Cyber Emergency Response Team said critical sectors such as banking, defence, media, and telecom services could be at higher risk from cyber threats.
Current number of bank account holders in Pakistan
Governor State Bank Jameel Ahmed said that currently 64% of Pakistan’s adult population has bank accounts.

How to protect your bank account?
Security experts recommend several simple steps to protect bank accounts:
- Use strong and unique passwords
- Enable multi-factor authentication where available
- Avoid clicking links sent through unknown messages
- Download banking apps only from official app stores
- Never share OTP codes or personal details over phone calls or messages
- Keep phone and banking apps updated
Officials also advise users to monitor their bank statements regularly and report any suspicious transactions immediately.
Other cyber threats and attack methods
Authorities warned about several types of cyber attacks being observed globally.
These include DDoS attacks that can shut down online services, phishing campaigns targeting sensitive information, and spyware hidden inside fake mobile applications.
They also warned about the growing use of deepfake technology and online disinformation campaigns aimed at spreading confusion or creating public panic.
Risk to institutions and infrastructure
Security agencies said cyber threats could also target government portals, media organisations, and infrastructure systems such as energy and telecommunications networks.
Experts believe attacks could come from different types of actors, including hacktivist groups, financially motivated criminals, and state-backed cyber units.
The cybersecurity advisory urged organisations to improve protection systems, conduct security audits, and use stronger encryption methods.
IT teams were also advised to monitor networks for suspicious activity and regularly back up important data.
Authorities said public awareness and safe online habits remain important as cyber threats continue to evolve.
