Chinese technology giants Huawei Technologies and Xiaomi Corporation are preparing to introduce new high-end smartphones just days before the expected arrival of Apple’s first foldable iPhone, adding further excitement to competition in the global smartphone market.
Huawei is set to unveil its highly premium Mate XT 2 today, the latest version of its tri-folding smartphone. The device features two folding mechanisms, allowing it to transform from a conventional smartphone into a tablet with a much larger display.
The Mate XT 2 is an upgraded version of the original Mate XT, which was launched two years ago as Huawei sought to push foldable technology toward more complex and advanced designs.
A key feature of the Mate XT 2 is its ability to function both as a regular smartphone and as a large-screen tablet. Through this design, Huawei aims to explore new possibilities in screen size and usability for foldable devices.
According to Huawei, the new phone will also be the first device to adopt the company’s Logic Folding chip design philosophy, which is aimed at improving performance through new engineering and design strategies.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi is also preparing to intensify competition in China’s smartphone market with the launch of its new top-tier phones during the same period.
The moves by the Chinese technology companies come as Apple Inc. prepares to enter the foldable smartphone market with its first foldable iPhone.
With Huawei and Xiaomi introducing new devices ahead of Apple’s major launch, competition in the global smartphone market is expected to become even more intense, as foldable technology increasingly emerges as the next major battleground among leading smartphone makers.
