You can now easily earn Rs150, 000 per month if you are a graduate as an Integrated Circuit (IC) engineer in Pakistan.
The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MOITT) has told the National Assembly that the engineers trained in IC design and verification can earn around Rs150,000 or more per month in Pakistan.
The figure was shared in a written response outlining government initiatives to develop specialised technology skills and create employment opportunities for young engineers.
The government-backed training programme was funded by Ignite, the National Technology Fund under the Ministry of IT and Telecom, and implemented by FAST-NUCES.
A total of 30 engineers, including seven women, were selected from 20 districts across Pakistan for the programme.
Participants received specialised training in advanced IC design, VLSI verification and System-on-Chip (SoC) architecture, as well as training in industry-standard design tools. They were also given exposure to chip tapeout and fabrication processes.
The ministry said 23 of the 30 trainees had secured jobs in Pakistan’s semiconductor industry after completing the programme.
The remaining seven chose to pursue master’s degrees to further specialise in the field.
According to information provided by Ignite to the National Assembly, fresh professionals with skills in IC design and verification can earn approximately Rs150,000 or more per month.
The ministry said the initiative was aimed at developing skilled human resources for Pakistan’s growing semiconductor sector, where specialised engineering expertise is in demand.
The employment of most programme participants in local semiconductor companies also indicates demand for engineers with specialised IC design and verification skills.
Engineer verification
People in Pakistan can check whether an engineer is registered with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) through its online verification system.
The PEC, the regulatory body for engineers in Pakistan, provides an online portal where users can search for registered engineers using details such as an engineer’s registration number or CNIC.
The main option is the PEC Engineer Verification Portal, where users can check an engineer’s registration status.
Alternatively, the Smart PEC Verification System allows users to verify individual engineers, engineering programmes and registered firms.
The PEC also provides separate online systems for checking the registration status of engineering firms and consultants.
- Constructor and operator firms: Users can check the validity of a firm’s PEC licence through the council’s firm verification system.
- Consulting firms: Registered engineering consultancy companies can be checked through the PEC’s consultant verification portal.
- Employment verification: Engineers joining firms may also be required to complete biometric verification under PEC’s Consent-Based Employment system.
The verification services are intended to help employers, clients and members of the public confirm an engineer’s registration and the status of engineering firms before engaging their services.
