The Afghanistan national cricket team registered a dominant 82-run victory over the Canada national cricket team in the 39th match of the ICC T20 World Cup.
Chasing a challenging target of 201 runs, Canada managed to score 118 for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Harsh Thakur top-scored with 30 runs, while Saad Bin Zafar contributed 28 runs before being dismissed by Rashid Khan. Captain Dilpreet Bajwa added 13 runs, Yuvraj Samra made 17, and Nicholas Creighton chipped in with 10 runs, but the team struggled to build substantial partnerships.
Afghanistan’s bowling attack proved decisive, with Mohammad Nabi claiming four wickets to dismantle the Canadian batting lineup. Rashid Khan provided strong support, taking two crucial wickets.
Earlier, opting to bat first, Afghanistan posted an imposing total of 200 for four in their 20 overs. Ibrahim Zadran narrowly missed out on a century, scoring a brilliant 95 off a knock that featured seven fours and five sixes. Siddiqullah Atal added 44 runs, while Rahmanullah Gurbaz contributed a quick 30 to bolster the innings.
Super eight lineup confirmed
From Group A, Pakistan advanced alongside arch-rivals India’s national cricket team.
Group B is represented by the Sri Lanka national cricket team and the Zimbabwe national cricket team.
Group C features the West Indies cricket team and the England cricket team.
Group D includes the South Africa national cricket team and the New Zealand national cricket team.
The Super Eight stage is divided into two groups. Pakistan find themselves in a challenging pool alongside New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka. The other group comprises India, South Africa, the West Indies and Zimbabwe.
Pakistan’s Super Eight Fixtures
Pakistan will open their Super Eight campaign against New Zealand on February 21. They are scheduled to face England on February 24 before taking on Sri Lanka in their final group-stage match on February 28.
With only the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals, Pakistan will need to secure at least two wins from their three matches to keep their title hopes alive.
Cricket fans are eagerly anticipating high-intensity clashes in the Super Eight stage, with Pakistan’s recent form raising expectations of a strong run in the tournament.
