Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, on Tuesday visited the headquarters of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and chaired a high-level meeting where he ordered the immediate identification and removal from the national database of illegal foreigners who had unlawfully acquired Pakistani citizenship.
During the briefing, NADRA Chairman Lt. Gen. Muhammad Munir Afzal provided the Minister with insights regarding the authority’s performance, current initiatives, and future projects.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi appreciated NADRA’s performance and its efficient delivery of public services. He instructed NADRA to extend full support to law enforcement agencies in the repatriation of illegal foreigners.
Mohsin Naqvi said that NADRA’s services have seen significant enhancements over the past two years and called for the introduction of more advanced facilities for the convenience of the public.
He directed that state-of-the-art NADRA offices in major cities be established on NADRA’s own properties rather than in rented spaces, and requested a comprehensive master plan in this regard.
The Interior Minister assured complete coordination with relevant departments and cooperation at the ministerial level.
During the briefing, NADRA officials indicated that the authority has implemented several measures to enhance citizen services.
They emphasised that collaboration from other departments is essential for the successful execution of facial recognition technology for biometric verification.
The briefing also noted that NADRA has annulled the identity cards of hundreds of thousands of deceased individuals. A 30-day period has been decided for addressing issues related to ID cards.
Officials further mentioned that, with the assistance of the PTA, mobile SIMs registered under the names of deceased individuals are being deactivated.
Rawalpindi police launches crackdown on illegal residents
Earlier, Rawalpindi police launched an extensive inspection initiative targeting shops and residences in relation to violations of the Tenancy Act, as reported by officials.
In the past three days, the police have documented 33 cases and identified 51 individuals for failing to adhere to the legal requirements.
A spokesperson for the police indicated that this campaign was initiated under the directives of City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani.
