Former Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has officially announced his second marriage in a detailed post on Instagram on Monday.
He announced his marriage weeks after confirming that he had filed for divorce from his former wife, Sannia Ashfaq.
The cricketer shared a long statement addressing his past marriage, his children and his decision to remarry.
Imad Wasim’s statement
In his Instagram post, Wasim wrote:
“I went through one of the hardest chapters of my life after a marriage that did not work. Even so, that chapter gave me the greatest blessings of my life, my children. I love them beyond words, and that love will never change.”
He added, “I stayed longer than I should have, holding on to hope and trying to protect what mattered most to me. In doing so, I made decisions I regret. My delay and silence contributed to a situation where an innocent person was unfairly judged and subjected to criticism she did not deserve. I take full responsibility for that, and I carry that weight with sincerity and remorse.”
By telling his fans about his marriage, he said, “With the grace of Allah and the guidance of my parents, I have now married Nyla. This step was taken thoughtfully and with clear intention to build a life rooted in peace, stability, and mutual respect. Nyla has brought calm, dignity, and strength into my life, and I stand by this decision with complete conviction.”
Furthermore, he said, “Above everything else, my commitment remains to my children. Fatherhood is not defined only by provision, but by presence, love, and guidance. Despite giving my utmost, I am still unable to see them. My only wish is to be actively and meaningfully involved in their lives, for their well-being and their future.”
“I move forward with accountability for my past, respect for everyone involved, and hope for healing, understanding, and peace,” he said.
The player has asked for privacy by saying, “I respectfully ask that my personal life be treated with dignity and privacy. Not everything needs to be debated publicly, and not every chapter needs commentary. Sometimes, the most meaningful way forward is with compassion, restraint, and respect for boundaries.”
He did not provide further details about the wedding ceremony or when it took place.
Replying to the post, Wasim’s ex-wife, Sannia Ashfaq, said, “It’s all lies. You cheated, and that’s who you are. Insha’Allah, Allah will bring justice. The day I gave birth, I called you and asked you to come see your son, and you chose not to answer. Instead, you went to the Wimbledon match with this bhudiii.”
Divorce announcement with Sannia Ashfaq
Earlier, Wasim had informed followers that he had filed for divorce from Sannia.
In a separate Instagram post, he said:
“After much thought, and due to repeated conflicts that could not be resolved over the past few years, I have filed for divorce. I sincerely request everyone to respect our privacy and avoid using or sharing any old couple photos. Please also refrain from referring to her as my spouse going forward.”
The 37-year-old player said, “I request everyone not to engage in or believe any misleading narratives. Any attempt to defame or involve others in this personal matter will be addressed through the proper legal channels if necessary.”
Talking about his children, he mentioned, “Regarding the children, I remain their father and will continue to care for them fully and responsibly.
Thank you for your understanding and respect.”
At the time, he described the separation as the result of long-standing issues.
Sannia Ashfaq’s response
Sannia Ashfaq also issued statements on social media, offering a different account of the breakdown of the marriage.
In an earlier post, she wrote:
“My home has been broken, and my children have been left without their father. I am a mother of three, including a five-month-old infant who has yet to be held by his father.”
She added, “Like many marriages, ours had difficulties, yet it continued to exist. I remained committed as a wife and mother and made sincere efforts to preserve our family. What ultimately ended this marriage was the involvement of a third party, whose intention was to marry my husband, became the final to an already struggling union.”
More recently, Ashfaq shared what she described as a video of Wasim’s second wedding with influencer Nayla Raja. In a caption accompanying the video, she wrote:
“Now everyone has seen the proof this homewrecker never once thought about my kids. The cheater has finally been exposed, and I want justice for my children and for everything we’ve been put through.”
Child abortion
In another post shared on Instagram, she made further allegations, saying that she was forced to abort her child by Imad Wasim.
In her post, she claimed, “In December 2023, he got my child aborted in Lahore. He’s a murderer, and I have a video that proves it.”
Sannia also criticised the Islamabad United franchise by saying, “He cheated on me. @islamabadunitedpsl has given a chance to a murderer and a cheater. #boycottislamabadunited no cheater or murderer should get an escape.”
Wasim has not publicly responded to these specific allegations.
