The former wife of Imran Khan, Jemima Goldsmith, has been convicted and fined £1,000 after failing to respond to police notices in a speeding case in London.
The 52-year-old was prosecuted after a Mini Clubman registered in her name was caught exceeding the speed limit in north London. The vehicle was recorded travelling at 46mph in a 40mph zone on the A1 in Hampstead on August 28 last year.
According to court documents, Goldsmith did not initially respond to letters sent by the Metropolitan Police requesting identification of the driver. She later named Anthony Reilly, a Switzerland-based individual, as the person behind the wheel. However, her reply was submitted six days after the final deadline, triggering court proceedings.
In a written statement to Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Goldsmith blamed ongoing major renovation work at her £10 million Kensington home for the delay. She said construction activity made access difficult and that the original letter was misplaced by builders.
Despite her explanation, Magistrate Gladys Famoriyo convicted her of failing to provide driver identification when required. In addition to the £1,000 fine, the court imposed six penalty points on her driving licence, £130 in costs, and a £400 victim surcharge.
