Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry has said that the government will follow the court’s order regarding the treatment of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, according to reports on Thursday.
Will Imran Khan be shifted to Shifa Hospital?
He said that if Imran Khan cannot be treated at a government hospital under the current laws, the government can move him to Shifa Hospital. The minister also said that Imran Khan could be sent abroad for treatment if needed.
Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the government has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court to seek clarification on the court’s decision.
He said the review petition does not mean that the government is refusing to follow the court order. The government will fulfil its responsibility according to the court’s directions.
The federal minister said that if Imran Khan cannot receive the required treatment at a government hospital under existing laws, the government can decide to move him to Shifa Hospital.
He also said that the government could consider sending Imran Khan abroad for treatment if required. Tariq Fazal also referred to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s time in prison.
He said Nawaz Sharif was moved to government hospitals during his imprisonment. His treatment abroad was later allowed by the government.
The minister repeated that the government will follow the Supreme Court’s order on Imran Khan’s treatment.
He said the purpose of the review petition is to seek clarity on how the court’s decision should be implemented. It is not an attempt to reject the order.
