People lashed out at the family members of PTI founder Imran Khan, as most of them were seen celebrating Basant in Lahore even though Khan has been in Adiala Jail for the past many years.
Shiraz, the son of Aleema Khan sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, was seen celebrating Basant with his family in Lahore.
A social media user wrote, ‘Quaid Imran Khan is in jail, while Aleema Khan’s son is celebrating Basant with his wife and children in Lahore’. The user also warned, ‘Be careful if anyone posts criticism or insults, they will be expelled from the party.’
Critics viewed that PTI’s double standards have been exposed, as Imran Khan remains in Adiala Jail while his nephews are seen enjoying Basant. Until yesterday, there was loud criticism of the festival, but today kites are being flown.
Another post read, ‘In Adiala, my sister comes every day to stage a media show outside the jail, while my sister’s children spin Basant wheels in Lahore.’ The backlash highlights what critics describe as hypocrisy: yesterday, there was strong opposition to Basant, and today, the same people are celebrating it themselves.
On the other hand Following the revival of Basant in Lahore, the traditional festival has drawn considerable interest from foreign tourists, many of whom actively took part in the celebrations across the city.
Foreign citizens and tourists residing in various areas of Lahore marked the occasion by flying kites on the rooftops of their homes, in hotels and at designated cultural venues.
