Tension erupted outside Adiala Jail on Wednesday as police moved in and used water cannon to break up the protest. Amid the chaos, former prime minister Imran Khan’s sisters were detained when the crowd began to scatter.
Eyewitnesses said they were taken into a police van and driven away, while several other detainees were also removed from the area. Law enforcement later cleared the site, bringing the protest to an end and restoring normalcy in the surroundings.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and party supporters chased the police van carrying Aleema Khan and her sisters after their arrest. The police acted swiftly to disperse the protesters and restore order, but PTI’s workers created more chaos on the streets. According to the media reports, the party workers shouted slogans and attempted to block law enforcement, showing blatant disregard for law and order. However, authorities assured that they would maintain law and order in the area.
PTI leader Haleem Adil Sheikh said that Rawalpindi Police used water cannons to disperse protestors near Adiala jail. He also confirmed the arrest of Imran Khan’s sisters. The PTI leader named the crackdown on protestors as police brutality. In his video message, he condemned the police action against PTI protestors.
