Imran Khan’s son urges EU to revoke Pakistan’s GSP+ status

Qasim Khan, the son of Imran Khan, has called on the European Union to revoke Pakistan’s GSP+ status.

At a time when Pakistan’s economy is undergoing a fragile recovery, any attempt to undermine external trade concessions amounts to a direct attack on national interests.

The appeal by Imran Khan’s sons to lobby for the withdrawal of Pakistan’s GSP+ status is being described as not only irresponsible but also an action that places personal political interests above the economic survival of millions of people.

GSP+ is not merely a symbolic concession; it supports key export sectors, sustains large-scale employment, and forms the foundation of Pakistan’s access to European markets. Using it as a political pressure tool to secure relief for an individual from legal proceedings crosses ethical, political, and national boundaries.

Such actions cannot be portrayed as dissent or democratic expression. Rather, they are seen as a deliberate attempt to internationalise domestic political disputes, putting Pakistan’s economic stability, global credibility, and future at risk.

Critics argue that this is not opposition politics but open economic sabotage, adding that no state can tolerate attempts to use foreign powers against its own country for personal interests.

Earlier, former Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, spoke to his sons on Eid ul-Fitr during a 30-minute phone call from Adiala Jail, according to the jail officials.

Sources at Adiala Jail said the conversation lasted around 25 to 30 minutes.

His sons, Qasim Khan and Suleman Khan, were both on the call.

Officials said the discussion focused on his health and general well-being.

They described the exchange as calm, adding that Imran Khan appeared in good spirits after speaking to his children.

Health and eye treatment

Concerns about Imran Khan’s health have also been raised by his sisters during his time in custody.

Media reports suggest he has undergone medical check-ups, including treatment related to his eyes, while in jail.

He received treatment from specialists at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad, where he was provided with proper medical care.

Officials have not shared detailed medical updates publicly, but say arrangements are made as required.
