The Indian opener, Abhishek Sharma, has been hospitalised with a stomach infection. This hospitalisation has put his participation in the match against Namibia in Delhi on Thursday in a doubt. Abhishek has been hospitalised for the past 2 days.
A BCCI source told that due to stomach infection Abhishek has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi. The source further added that many tests are being done to understand the cause of the problem, it is still not clear yet whether he will be discharged today or not.
It looks like that he will not be able to play the match against Namibia.
Abhishek has already played the first India’s T20 World Cup game against the USA and was out for duck on his first ball. He started having stomach issues since then.
He did not participate in the second innings due to feeling sick and India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed that the batter was recovering from a stomach bug.
ten Doeschate said the “Abhi has got a few issues with his tummy.” However, at that time he said that they were hopeful he will be available for the next game in two days.
In the case of Abhishek not being ready in time for the Namibia game, India will have to open with Sanju Samson who was himself replaced by Ishan Kishan as the first choice wicketkeeper-batter after a run of low scores against New Zealand last month.
In the same press meet ten Doeschate further said that the thing they are waiting the most on, is Abhi’s fitness because he is part of few different combinations.
India still has some good news for their next fixture as Jasprit Bumrah has regained his health and will be available for the match against Namibia.
He was seen taking part in training in Delhi on Tuesday.
