Indonesian President Visit: Awarded with Nishan-e-Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Mr. Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, paid an official visit to Pakistan on 8-9 December 2025.

President Asif Ali Zardari awarded the Nishan-e-Pakistan to his Indonesian colleague.

The top civil award was presented during a special ceremony last night on Tuesday.

The event was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the military leadership. The ceremony was therefore a recognition of the good relations between the two countries.

President Subianto was in the country for two days between December 8 and 9. This visit was of particular interest this year. Pakistan and Indonesia celebrate 75 years of diplomacy.

During meetings, leaders were able to consider the entire range of bilateral relations. They said that they were determined to increase the cooperation in all aspects.

Strengthening Economic and Defence Relations

The two parties came to an agreement to venture into cooperation in a progressive way. They also pledged to strengthen the relationship in the economic, trade, and defence fields.

Notably, they stated that bilateral trade is now at a stage of exceeding 4 billion. The two countries are aiming to exploit the remaining meaningful opportunities.

Thus, they agreed to modernize the current Preferential Trade Agreement (IP-PTA). They are planning to have a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) by the year 2027.

Moreover, they will discuss collaboration in such services as IT, cybersecurity, and fintech. Leaders also consented to intensify the military cooperation. These comprise improved military interdependence and defence industrial interdependence.

International and Regional Issues

The leaders reiterated their determination to work together concerning transnational security issues. This consists of preventing and countering terrorism.

They were also greatly concerned about the humanitarian crisis in Palestine. The two parties reiterated that they would support a fair two-state solution.

The Indonesian delegation was also briefed by the Pakistani about what goes on in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Lastly, President Subianto said that he appreciated the Pakistani warm hospitality.
