Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif and CDF Field Marshal Asim Munir are making efforts for peace in middle east.
Speaking to the media, Tarar said Pakistan is playing a key role in the Middle East, with joint efforts by the prime minister and military leadership focused on promoting stability and peace.
He added that the global community is acknowledging Pakistan’s role, while claiming that India appears “uneasy” over the country’s growing importance in the region.
The minister said that national interest must remain paramount, urging political leaders to avoid rhetoric that could harm the country’s image internationally. “Criticism is everyone’s right, but it should not come at the cost of national dignity,” he said.
Referring to recent developments at the Geneva meeting, Tarar termed the situation “extraordinary” and reiterated that Pakistan’s standing has improved following recent successes.
He also warned against propaganda targeting the country, calling it unacceptable during a sensitive time. “No political leader is bigger than Pakistan,” he stated, adding that political differences should not translate into actions that undermine the state.
Tarar said that Imran Khan had previously predicted economic default and sought actions that could harm Pakistan’s international standing, including the withdrawal of GSP+ status.
He further stated that efforts were made to influence international forums against Pakistan, while reaffirming that the government remains committed to safeguarding the country’s economic and diplomatic interests.
Imran Khan’s son urges EU to revoke Pakistan’s GSP+ status
It is important to mention here that Qasim Khan, the son of Imran Khan, earlier called on the European Union to revoke Pakistan’s GSP+ status.
At a time when Pakistan’s economy is undergoing a fragile recovery, any attempt to undermine external trade concessions amounts to a direct attack on national interests.
The appeal by Imran Khan’s sons to lobby for the withdrawal of Pakistan’s GSP+ status is being described as not only irresponsible but also an action that places personal political interests above the economic survival of millions of people.
GSP+ is not merely a symbolic concession; it supports key export sectors, sustains large-scale employment, and forms the foundation of Pakistan’s access to European markets. Using it as a political pressure tool to secure relief for an individual from legal proceedings crosses ethical, political, and national boundaries.
Such actions cannot be portrayed as dissent or democratic expression. Rather, they are seen as a deliberate attempt to internationalise domestic political disputes, putting Pakistan’s economic stability, global credibility, and future at risk.
Critics argue that this is not opposition politics but open economic sabotage, adding that no state can tolerate attempts to use foreign powers against its own country for personal interests.
