Fresh evidence of nexus between India and the Afghan Taliban has emerged after a wounded Taliban terrorist, injured during clashes with Pakistan, was found receiving medical treatment in the Indian capital.
According to reports, at least one Taliban member injured during border fighting with Pakistan has been transferred to New Delhi for treatment. The injured fighter, who struggled to walk without assistance, was seen in the city alongside two attendants.
The Taliban member and his companions are currently staying in the Lajpat Nagar area of New Delhi. Speaking to a journalist, the fighter claimed he sustained injuries during clashes in Afghanistan’s Spin Boldak region near the Pakistan border.
He further said that his travel to India was arranged on the direct orders of Taliban Defence Minister Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid and that the Indian Embassy in Kabul facilitated the issuance of his visa.
Neither Indian authorities nor the Taliban administration has officially commented on the claims. It also remains unclear how many Taliban personnel may have travelled to India for medical treatment.
India suspended regular visa services for Afghan nationals following the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul in August 2021. However, a revised visa system introduced in 2025 allows selected categories of Afghans to apply for medical, business, student and humanitarian visas, subject to individual review.
The development comes amid escalating tensions between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban administration, with recent months witnessing border skirmishes, military clashes and cross-border strikes. Security concerns have intensified since the Taliban returned to power, with Pakistan repeatedly expressing concerns over terrorists activity along the frontier.
Since the Taliban’s return to power, several senior Taliban officials, including Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, Industry and Commerce Minister Nooruddin Azizi, and Public Health Minister Noor Jalal Jalali, have visited India.
