International Men’s Day: Appreciate the Men in Your Life

International Men's Day being observed today

WEB DESK: International Men’s day is being observed today, not just around the world but in Pakistan as well. This year, the day’s special focus is on men’s mental health and emotional well-being.

The day is celebrated to appreciate men’s contributions as fathers, sons, brothers and important members of society.

We arguably live in a patriarchal and hierarchical society. As a result, some people think that men cannot be victims. After all a society which operates this way should be favorable to men. But this is not the case.

Sadly, there are many occasions where men have been defeated by their own vulnerabilities which often leads to the range of mental health problems or even worse “suicide”

Some challenges that men normally facing in our society are:

  • Work and financial pressure
  • Social expectations of strength
  • Limited emotional support
  • Relationship problems with spouse, parents, children
  • LGBTQ
  • Work-life balance

The struggles we discussed here don’t invalidate the difficulties women face. Instead, we deepen the perspective recognize that gender-based challenges cut both ways.

If people start talking more about the problems men face, we can make real progress in society. Understanding each other, showing empathy, and creating fair rules for everyone are the main goals.

Yes, men often have power in society, but that doesn’t mean they don’t face struggles, by paying attention to these issues that men are facing we can build a fairer and more caring society that works for everyone.
