Internet services in Pakistan will be encountering some disruptions tomorrow (January 15) due to a scheduled maintenance of one of the country’s submarine cables.
Nayatel, in a notification issued to its customers, said that “an unavoidable maintenance activity is planned on one of the submarine cables of Pakistan on January 15, around 2 PM and the duration can be up to eight hours.”
The company warned that could lead to slowdowns in internet speed all over the country, adding, “Inconvenience is regretted.” Nayatel didn’t give specific details on any faults or issues on the concerned cable.
If this disruption occurs, this will be the second major internet slowdown in less than two weeks. Earlier in January 1, 2026 we had seen widespread internet outage in Pakistan which lasted for more than 2 days due to an outage of one of the upstream providers in Pakistan.
To reduce the effects of the pending maintenance, users are advised to take a number of precautions. Individuals who depend on the internet for business, web meetings or school assignments should get these critical tasks completed ahead of time.
Businesses can try to schedule web operations that are necessarily conducted online, outside of the maintenance window and prepare offline.
Backing up important files and documents is recommended in the event as there can be potential access problems in the event of outage.
Additionally, users can count on mobile data if the fixed-line connections are affected as a temporary solution.
On Internet-Service-Shutdowns staying well-informed of official announcements from Internet service providers will help people plan their day accordingly.
Finally, patience and schedule adjustment can help ease the level of frustration during unavoidable interruptions to service.
By taking these preparatory steps, the Pakistanis can better deal with the intended internet slowdown on January 15 while reducing any disruption to the routine of life.
