On Sunday, in Inglewood, California, the World Cup hopes for Iran were kept alive after they drew their Group G match 0-0 with Belgium.
The star of the match was Alireza Berianvan, the goal keeper of Iranian team. The goalkeeper impressed the audience by saving seven goal attempts.
The credit for Iran’s second draw of the tournament goes to him.
This is not the first time in FIFA 2026 that Iran’s goalkeeper impressed the audience. In Iran’s first match against New Zealand he saved six goal attempts.
The game was mostly dominated by Belgium. They possessed the ball 68 per cent of the time. Iran was only able to take three shots at the goal while Belgium took seven.
However, the four extra attempts did not amount to much, because the Iranian goalkeeper defended the goals like a wall.
During a fleeting moment during the 25th minute it also seemed that Iran had scored a goal and were ahead of their opponents. It seemed that their played Mehdi Taremi had gotten them an extremely important breakthrough.
However, due to offside and encroachment the goal was ruled out by the VAR.
Another important incident came at the 66th minute of the match. A Belgian defender, Nathan Ngoy was given a red card by the referee.
This was due to him pulling down an Iranian player.
Belgium played with only 10 men in the last 30 minutes of the match. However, that did not change the dynamics of the game and they remained dominant.
The result leaves both Iran and Belgium with two points from their first two matches. As a result, both teams must win their final group-stage fixtures on June 26 to guarantee a place in the knockout rounds.
Belgium will face New Zealand in Vancouver, while Iran takes on Egypt in Seattle in a decisive final round of Group G matches.
