Amid intense diplomatic tensions in the Middle East, a major development has emerged regarding nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States.
The Iranian administration has sent Washington a new and detailed draft proposal containing seven tough conditions for the restoration of the nuclear deal and a ceasefire in the region. The primary objective of these proposals is to address concerns regarding its nuclear programme and reduce ongoing tensions between the two countries, paving the way for a new round of negotiations.
Iran’s Proposals Sent to Washington Through Qatar
According to media reports, sources have revealed that this important diplomatic document has been conveyed to US officials through Qatar’s role as a mediator. Washington is currently reviewing the proposals in detail. However, the US administration has yet to confirm whether it will accept Iran’s seven conditions or formally approve the draft.
Tehran’s Seven Non-Negotiable Demands
The draft presented by Tehran includes the following seven tough demands:
1. Immediate End to War on All Fronts: Complete cessation of all ongoing military and armed operations involving Iran, Lebanon and other fronts across the region.
2. Lifting of the US Naval Blockade: Removal of American naval restrictions imposed on Iranian ports and maritime routes.
3. End to Economic and Trade Sanctions: Unconditional lifting of all US sanctions crippling Iran’s economy.
4. Release of Billions of Dollars in Frozen Assets: Immediate restoration of Iranian financial assets held in various banks abroad.
5. Reduction of US Military Presence in the Middle East: A significant reduction in the number of American troops stationed in the region.
6. Compensation for War Damages: Compensation by the US administration for all economic and human losses suffered by Iran during the war.
7. Complete Halt to Attacks on Iranian Territory: An end to all kinds of operations within Iran’s borders, with respect for Iranian sovereignty.
Mohsen Rezaei’s Firm Position
In this regard, senior Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei, while speaking to the media during his visit to Russia, made Iran’s firm position clear. He said, “We have presented our seven conditions to the Americans at the diplomatic table. Until Washington implements all these conditions, neither will the Strait of Hormuz be opened nor will there be any direct negotiations.”
US Priorities and Elections
On one hand, mediating countries have intensified their efforts to secure a ceasefire, while on the other, concerns are being raised that the situation could deteriorate further following the midterm elections in the United States.
President Donald Trump has not ruled out the possibility of military action after the elections, to which Iran has responded by warning of serious consequences and a large-scale retaliatory operation.
Furthermore, Washington’s position is that all of Iran’s nuclear issues must be included from the very beginning of discussions, while Tehran remains adamant that its conditions must first be accepted.
It is worth recalling that the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, in response to which Iran targeted Israel and US military bases in Gulf countries.
