Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has landed in Pakistan on official visit after talks between Tehran and Washington in Switzerland, which were mediated by Islamabad.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Sharif accorded a warm and grand welcome to the Iranian president upon his arrival at Nur Khan Airbase. A 21-gun salute was presented in honour of President Masoud Pezeshkian on his arrival in Pakistan.
Pakistan Air Force JF-17 Thunder fighter aircraft escorted and saluted the Iranian president’s plane as it entered Pakistani airspace and arrived at Nur Khan Airbase. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was also part of President Pezeshkian’s delegation.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office earlier confirmed the Iranian president’s visit to Islamabad, saying Pezeshkian will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers and other high-ranking officials.
During the visit, President Pezeshkian will meet President Asif Ali Zardari and hold talks with PM Shehbaz.
The Senate chairman, the National Assembly speaker, and the deputy prime minister/foreign minister will call on the Iranian president, the Foreign Office said.
This is Dr Pezeshkian’s second visit to Pakistan in his capacity as president of Iran.
“During the visit, the two sides will review the full spectrum of bilateral relations and explore new avenues to further deepen cooperation across diverse sectors, including trade, energy, border security, people-to-people exchanges, and regional connectivity,” it added.
The FO said the visit will also provide an important opportunity to discuss ongoing diplomatic engagements following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, as well as regional and international developments of mutual interest.
“The forthcoming visit reflects the shared commitment of Pakistan and Iran to further deepen their historic and cultural ties and underscores their common aspiration for peace, stability, and sustainable progress in the region,” the statement added.

ICT police issues traffic plan for Islamabad
The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police issued a traffic plan for June 23 ahead of the visit of the Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, to Pakistan.
According to the travel advisory posted by the ICT police on social media platforms, every kind of heavy travelling vehicle (HTV) will be banned from entering the capital from 12am onwards, except for the routes that are allowed to travel.
The authorities also said that all entry points to the Red Zone will be a no-go area for all types of traffic, except for access through Marriott and Margalla Road.
The traffic will be diverted on the Expressway from Koral to Faizabad, Murree Road, and Club Road. Meanwhile, Srinagar Highway will remain completely closed from Zero Point to Dhokri Chowk.
The traffic on Faisal Avenue and Zero Point will be diverted towards 9th Avenue.
