Ireland outclass Oman in high-scoring T20 WC encounter

In a high-scoring encounter at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Ireland registered a commanding 96-run victory over Oman in Colombo, marking their first win of the tournament.

After winning the toss, Oman opted to field first, hoping to restrict the Irish batting line-up. However, Ireland delivered a dominant performance with the bat, piling up an imposing total of 235 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Lorcan Tucker led the charge with a blistering 94, narrowly missing out on a century, while Gareth Delany provided solid support with a well-crafted 56.

For Oman, Shakeel Ahmed was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets. Shah Faisal and Aamir Kaleem chipped in with one wicket each, but the bowling unit struggled to contain Ireland’s aggressive stroke play.

Chasing a daunting target of 236, Oman faltered under pressure and were bowled out for 139 in 18 overs.

Aamir Kaleem fought hard with a valiant 50, and Hammad Mirza contributed 46, but the rest of the batting order failed to build substantial partnerships.

Ireland’s bowling attack was equally impressive. Josh Little spearheaded the effort with three wickets, while Matthew and Barry McCarthy picked up two wickets apiece to seal a comprehensive win.

The result comes after both Ireland and Oman had suffered defeats in their respective opening matches of the tournament. Earlier in the competition, Zimbabwe caused the first major upset of the 2026 T20 World Cup by defeating Australia, setting the tone for an eventful tournament.
