Is Discord down? This is the question that millions of users are posing following significant outages on Friday, 8 May, 2026.
As reported by Downdetector, a platform that tracks real-time outages, approximately 70,000 users indicated problems at 3:49 p.m., with the number of complaints subsequently decreasing to 40,000 users by around 4:11 p.m.
The outage was noted in various cities across the United States (US), including New York, Miami, Phoenix, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle.
According to Downdetector, about 57% of users experienced difficulties with the app, 25% encountered issues with Messaging, and 13% faced problems with Login.
Discord, the widely-used online gaming platform, recognised the issue through a post on X.
In its initial update, the company stated, “Discord is down.” Nearly one hour later, the account provided another update indicating, “Working on it.”
Discord has not yet confirmed the complete restoration of its services.
Without specifying a timeline for the restoration of services, Discord acknowledged the outage in a post on X that simply stated, “WORKING ON IT.”
In responses on the X thread, Discord shared, “RESPONDING HERE BC WE ARE DOWN SO SORRY” and “SO MANY APOLOGIES FOR INTERRUPTING THAT IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR DAY WE WILL MAKE SURE THAT YOU CAN RESUME THAT EXPEDITIOUSLY.”
