Is Pakistan getting LNG from Qatar under current situation?

The current situation in the Middle East is very alarming, and under these circumstances, it is impossible to obtain Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from Qatar.

According to media reports, Qatar Gas has informed Pakistan about the suspension of LNG supply. Currently, eight LNG cargoes are scheduled to arrive from Qatar in March, but only two have been delivered. The remaining six cargoes were expected on March 7, 11, 12, 16, 20, and 21.

Pakistan will not receive LNG from Qatar until the war situation is resolved, the Petroleum Division viewed.

Pakistan will need to manage the load with the LNG already available. By carefully managing consumption, LNG may be available from March 20 to 21. Sources also indicated that LNG supply to other sectors, including the industrial sector, will be affected.

Federal Minister for Commerce statement

Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal, stated that LNG is expected to come from Qatar, but alternative fuel options are also being considered.

He emphasised that the responsibility for exports and imports lies with the shipping lines, which must fulfil their obligations.

The minister further explained that some negative impacts have already begun due to increased risk insurance and container expenses, affecting the entire region.

This route is crucial for regional trade and energy supply, and countries dependent on Gulf energy resources will also face challenges.

Jam Kamal noted that goods and shipments in this region were previously convenient, but the rise in insurance and logistics costs is now being felt.
