The Capital Mass Transit Authority (CMTA) has increased the frequency of electric buses on three major routes in Islamabad to reduce passenger waiting times and improve public transport services.
The revised schedule came into effect on September 3, 2026, following a rise in passenger demand, according to the CMTA.
Under the new timetable, buses operating on FR-08B, which connects Khanna Pul with Nilore, will now run every 12 minutes, compared with the previous 15-minute interval.
The service interval on FR-09, operating between Khanna Pul and Golra Mor, has also been reduced from 15 minutes to 12 minutes.
Meanwhile, passengers travelling on FR-14, which operates between Barakahu and Mandi Mor, will now have access to a bus every 12 minutes instead of 15 minutes.
The revised headways are expected to provide commuters with more frequent services and shorter waiting times along all three routes.
The CMTA said the changes were introduced to improve commuter convenience and meet the growing demand for public transport in the capital.
The authority has advised passengers to plan their journeys according to the revised schedule, which is now in effect.
In a separate development, on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, an eco-friendly public transport project has been launched in Murree, with 10 modern green electric buses arriving in the hill station. According to the district administration, the electric buses will operate on key routes to promote clean and pollution-free transportation. The buses have also been integrated into the transport network to improve travel facilities between Rawalpindi and Murree. Officials said the initiative aims to provide tourists and local residents with a comfortable, safe, and affordable mode of transport while helping reduce environmental pollution through the use of eco-friendly vehicles.
Punjab govt moves to reduce transport fares
Before this, CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz welcomed the government’s decision to reduce petrol and diesel prices. She also directed officials to quickly lower transport fares and goods delivery charges across the province so that people can benefit from the price cut. She thanked the public for their patience during difficult times. She also appreciated Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and his team for reducing fuel prices.
