The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman, and Islamabad Chief Commissioner, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, chaired a meeting today regarding the electric tram and e-bus project. As per the meeting, Islamabad will be getting electric trams sooner as the project speeds up. It was decided to conduct a feasibility study on the electric tram project in the city soon. The meeting agenda was on how to promote an environmentally friendly and modern public transport system in Islamabad.
Electric Tram project
As per the directives of the Chairman of CDA, the system of this project will be made completely digital and cashless. The acquisition of carbon credits in this eco-friendly transport project will be ensured in the planning phase.
The electric tram project will include depots, parking, charging infrastructure and modern repair facilities for the tram. The project will be implemented according to the modern Intelligent Transport System (ITS).
The electric tram project will be completely built on modern lines, comfortable and environmentally friendly. This project will be integrated with the modern transit system.
The Chairman of CDA said that a feasibility study should be conducted to connect the electric tram project to important places in Islamabad, especially Islamabad International Airport. In this regard, the latest travel data and future demand will be taken into account.
Chairman Randhawa further said that all resources are being utilised to provide the citizens of the federal capital, Islamabad, with the best, affordable and eco-friendly travel facilities.
Other officials in meeting
The meeting was also attended by Member Admin Talat Mahmood, Member Planning and Design Dr Khalid Hafeez, Member Finance Tahir Naeem, and Deputy Commissioner (DC) Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon, along with other senior officers of the CDA. The meeting discussed the practical implementation and infrastructure of the electric tram and electric buses project in the capital, Islamabad.
Randhawa said that this is a historic step in the capital, Islamabad, and it will not only provide modern facilities to the citizens but will also lead to a reduction in environmental pollution.
