Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Captain (retd.) Muhammad Sohail Chaudhry has ordered the removal of all seven temporary security barriers placed at different locations across Islamabad.
The barriers were installed as part of security measures in the capital. However, they caused traffic diversions and increased travel times on some roads.
The IGP has directed the relevant authorities to remove all seven temporary barriers. The move aims to make daily travel easier and improve traffic flow across Islamabad.
Islamabad has seen increased security arrangements in recent weeks due to political activities and the law and order situation.
Police personnel were deployed at different locations. Containers and temporary barriers were also placed on some routes for security purposes. These measures affected daily movement in parts of the city.
Islamabad Police has been working to improve traffic flow and make travel easier for citizens. During a security meeting in September, the IGP directed relevant departments to improve coordination between security and traffic teams.
Sohail Chaudhry took charge as Islamabad’s police chief in September 2026. Since then, he has directed officers to improve public services and respond quickly to citizens’ complaints.
He reviewed security arrangements, police deployment and operational preparedness, during a citywide inspection in September.
He also directed officers to focus on crime prevention and provide timely services to the public.
The IGP instructed officers to improve police response times and increase their presence in the field. He also stressed the need to provide citizens with a safe and convenient environment when dealing with police departments.
Islamabad Police currently provides several public services. These include Emergency 15, the IGP Complaint Cell, traffic assistance and online police services.
