ISLAMABAD: Residents of the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi continue to suffer due to blockages of main roads at entry points and suspension of the metro bus service for the second consecutive day due to a protest by a religious party.
By late Friday night, some of the roads have been opened by the authorities which include main Peshawar Road to Sohan Highway, 26 No chungi, MH, Kacheri, Khawaja Corporation, Pirwadhai Mor, T Chowk, Koral and main Peshawar Road. However main Islamabad Expressway at Faizabad completely closed, Zero point, Serena Chowk and all roads leading to D Chowk remain blocked by containers.
Motorway M2 also remains closed from Lahore to Islamabad. The affected entry points include Chakri Interchange, Kala Shah Kaku Interchange, Fateh Jang Interchange, Islamabad Interchange M-2 Zero point and M1-M2 junction for traffic from Peshawar via M1.Similarly GT Road entry into Islamabad is also closed.
Due to the closure of the roads the residents are facing hardships in going about their normal lives especially those who have to travel to the hospitals or the airport.
The suspension of the mobile service and metro service for an indefinite period has compounded their hardships.
