ISLAMABAD: At least 70 students were injured when a university bus met with an accident on Faisal Avenue, Islamabad on Wednesday morning.
According to initial reports, a bus belonging to the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) was travelling at high speed when its brakes failed. The bus collided with several vehicles before veering off the road into a greenbelt.
The accident occurred when traffic police had stopped vehicles on Faisal Avenue near Sector F-7 due to a VIP route. The bus, on its way to the university in Sector H-8, tried to halt but lost control due to brake failure, police said.
Six other cars were also damaged in the pile-up. Rescue teams and police reached the scene soon after the incident. The injured students were shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
A case has been registered against the bus driver, while traffic flow on Faisal Avenue remained disrupted for several hours after the accident.
