ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has issued a traffic advisory for office goers during peak rush hours in the federal capital.
As per details, the police warned commuters about heavy traffic pressure on Srinagar Highway and the Islamabad Expressway during office and peak hours.
According to APP, quoting the ITP spokesperson, due to routine office movement, traffic congestion is expected on the two major roads, which may affect the smooth flow of vehicles.
He urged citizens to plan their journeys with extra time and remain patient when travelling during rush hours in the federal capital.
The spokesperson said ITP officers will remain deployed on roads to ensure smooth traffic flow and facilitate commuters.
No vehicle without M-tag will be allowed in Islamabad after Jan 1
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced that vehicles without M-tag will be banned from entering Islamabad from 1st January 2026.
He directed the officials concerned to expedite work on Capital Smart City project in Islamabad.
He was speaking during his visit to Safe City headquarters in Islamabad today along with Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhary.
The Minister said basic civic facilities like Rescue 1122, traffic and security will be integrated into the central system in the smart city.
He said the Capital Smart City project will be adopted as a model to make Islamabad the safest city. The Minister said the scope of the smart city will be extended to the entire country.
M-Tag Points Set Up in Islamabad
In order to facilitate the public, the district administration earlier set up additional M-Tag points in Islamabad.
10 M-Tag centres in Islamabad are fully operational for the facilitation of the public. More staff has also been deployed at these centres so the process could be expedited and there is less rush.
According to the Islamabad administration, in view of rising rush one more M-Tag centre has been set up at Parade Ground.
The administration has advised residents to visit the new centre to avoid long queues, adding that motorists can get their M-Tags issued immediately at the Parade Ground facility.
Vehicles without M-Tags are being identified through scanners placed at various points, and the administration has warned that strict action will be taken against vehicles found without the tag.
The process of installing M-Tags on vehicles in the federal capital is moving ahead rapidly. According to the district administration, 49,551 vehicles have received M-Tags since November 14, while another 2,875 vehicles were registered in the 24 hours.
Officials said that once the system is fully functional, vehicles found without an M-Tag may face hefty fines or even be taken to police stations. The Safe City team is also finalising technical integration to ensure accurate identification of vehicles across the city’s surveillance network.
