The Islamabad Transport Authority and local transporters reached an agreement on Saturday to keep intra-city transport fares unchanged, despite the recent fuel price hike.

According to the capital administration, both sides decided during a meeting to maintain existing fares despite recent changes in petroleum prices.

Authorities warned that they would take strict legal action, including possible arrest, against any vehicle or driver found overcharging. The Islamabad Transport Association has also issued guidelines to its members to ensure compliance.

Fares for Hiace vans operating within the city will also remain unchanged.

Officials warned that the police may take action against any vehicle or driver charging above the fixed fare. The chairman of the Islamabad Transport Authority has urged citizens to report such violations and encouraged them to file complaints with the control room.

Passengers are advised to note the registration number of any vehicle involved in overcharging when lodging a complaint.

Meanwhile, a handout from the Islamabad Waggon Owners and Drivers Welfare Association said a meeting, chaired by its president Kabir Ahmed Kiani, decided not to increase fares across 23 local transport routes in Islamabad.
